Jeff Nakamura Memorial Fund (Fund #12671504)
Jeffrey Scott Nakamura, 48, passed away June 3, 2013 after a valiant battle with cancer. Diagnosed with cancer about the same time he began designing the University of Hawaii Cancer Center in 2011, Jeff dedicated his passion, enthusiasm and determination to simultaneously beating his own cancer and designing this $102M, 162,640 gsf research facility that will be instrumental in finding the cure to a disease that affects over 12 million people in the United States. This facility provides a state-of-the-art environment for wet and dry laboratory research, allowing collaboration with local hospitals and JABSOM, while breaking new ground in building sustainability and energy efficiency. Under his guidance, the University of Hawaii Cancer Center was completed ahead of schedule and under budget and was recently awarded 2 NAIOP awards, a BIA Hawaii Grand Award, GCA Hawaii Excellence Award and achieved USGBC’s LEED Gold standing.
